Loving God

"For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5:3

Did you know that faith in Christ and love for people relate to each other.

When you take time to read the Word of God for yourself it will make a difference in how you see it.

Sometimes people relate keeping commandments with the love of God.

"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." John 14:15

The scripture clearly separates loving Christ from obeying His commands.

"If you love Me" - that is one thing.

Then "you will keep My commandments", that is another.

The one leads to the other.

When you have the love of God in your heart, then you will want to keep His commandments.

When you have the one, you will want to do the other no questions asked.

It is by no means wrong to say that loving God, or loving Jesus includes doing what He commands.

There is more, just don't stop there.

Loving God is just not external obedience.

Loving God is having a heart for God that doesn't find His commandments a burdensome.

It is not something that is carried, or something oppressive or worrisome.

If His commandments are not burdensome, what are they?

They are desirable.

What you desire to do with your whole heart is not burdensome to do.

"I delight to do Thy will, O my God: yea, Thy law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8

"For Thou art great, and doest wondrous things: Thou art God alone. Teach me Thy way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy truth; unite my heart to fear Thy name. I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Thy name forevermore." Psalm 86:10-12

"Thy testimonies are also my delight and my counsellors." Psalm 119:24

"Unless Thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in my affliction." Psalm 119:92

Loving God means to admire.

Loving God means to value and treasure Him.

Loving God means desiring Him in eager zealousness and worthy of acceptance based on fact that His will is our delight and is not burdensome.

"Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven." Psalm 119:89

"I will never forget Thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me." Psalm 119:93

"How sweet are Thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way." Psalm 119: 103-104

Life is a gift, and should only grow more valuable as we grow older.

One important thing in life is love.

Without love we die, at least on the inside.

It is when we try to substitute something for love it always ends up badly.

Without love we can not know God.

"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." 1 John 4:8
